Smoke Cleansing &
Work Day at the Hermitage

This Sunday, April 21st, we will have our usual Sunday Smoke-Cleansing at the Drikung Forest Hermitage up in the Burnsville area! Especially if you have not yet seen our land and future monastery, this is a good time to come up. It will also be our first Work Day of the season, although you are not at all obligated to work. Dr. Lye plans to lead the Cleasing Smoke Offering and give a personal tour of the land and share his vision to those who will be visiting for the first time.

We will carpool from the UD parking lot at 8:45 am, to arrive in time for a Smoke Cleansing at 10:00 am. If you prefer to meet us there, email us back for directions NOW.

Come for the Smoke Cleansing, the working, or just to hang out and see the place with Dr. Lye. If you plan to stay to work afterwards, plan to bring some food, work gloves if you have any, and dress accordingly.

Over the last 14 months since the purchase of the property in late 2022, there's been tremendous volunteer effort to get this project started. In recent weeks, the ground has been prepared for the metal building, which will serve as the first gathering hall. This is a huge step! Next, a crew of hired workers will be raising this building—it will be up to us volunteers to get the interior fixed up and ready to go. In the meantime, there's barn staining, ditch digging, and seed spreading to do to prepare for the year ahead.

Similar to Urban Dharma, Dr. Lye's hope is that the Drikung Forest Hermitage becomes a place where the efforts of many manifest into something of real benefit for our community.
